To quote Dr. Charlotte Pierce-Baker, from both her award-winning book Surviving the Silence: Black Women’s Stories of Rape and from NO!, “there is an uncanny silence surrounding the trauma of Black rape…” Based on this his/herstorical silence, I can’t think of a better place to premiere a feature length documentary, which unveils the reality of rape, other forms of sexual violence, and healing in African-American communities than at the largest Black History Month event in the US.
